A journey of discipline, from student to competitor to coach.
Started to fence at 7 years old; medals in different levels of competitions, local, RYC, SYC, RJCC, ROC, etc. In ROC, I got the Gold medal in Div1A and Div 2. Three-time consecutive Junior Olympics qualifier and ten-time consecutive Summer Nationals qualifier.
Started fencing at a local club, fascinated by the precision and strategy. The foil felt heavy in my small hands, but I was determined to learn.
Entered first regional competitions. Learned that losing was just as important as winning — each defeat taught me about strategy and mental toughness.
Earned E rating (March 29), D rating (Oct 25). These milestones came after years of losses, perseverance, and learning to reset after each defeat.
Achieved C rating (Sep 2023), B rating (Jan 2025). Won 1st at Air Force ROC and Crescent City Open. 2nd at COZMX ROC, Winter RJCC. 77th at Junior Olympics.
Assistant coach at Saratoga Fencing Club. Taught younger fencers technique, discipline, and confidence. Realized service can happen anywhere — even behind a mask.
Fencing taught me that mastery comes through countless hours of practice. Every technique requires repetition and refinement. I learned that progress isn't always visible immediately, but consistency builds excellence.
In a fencing match, a single moment of distraction can cost you the point. I developed the ability to maintain intense concentration under pressure - a skill that has served me well in academics and life.
Every fencer faces defeats. What matters is how you bounce back. I learned to analyze my losses, learn from them, and return stronger. This resilience has shaped my approach to challenges in all areas of life.
